Native Plant Nursery

Native Plant Nursery

Planting Seeds Of Resilience In Our Communities.

With Traditional Ecological Knowledge at the core of our activities, we emphasize equity, sustainability, and practical workforce development for marginalized youth.

  • Safe Gathering Place

  • Food Sovereignty

  • Climate Resilience

For centuries, traditional Tribal practices preserved a sustainable ecological equilibrium between land and people. But extractive systems have led to environmental degradation in our most underserved communities. To combat this, TLC is establishing a Tribal nursery focused on growing and planting culturally significant native trees.

PURPOSE

These efforts will address our communal greening and cooling needs, promote cultural and climate resilience, support medicinal and ceremonial plant use, and empower communities to lead efforts for positive change.

DURATION

The first phase of the nursery project will be five years, expected to conclude in December 2028.

FOCUS AREA

Underserved communities within the Tribal territory of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians.

NURSERY SITE

Through Tribal community convenings and in-depth data analysis, TLC has established a nursery site and identified priority locations for tree planting.
