Tribally-Founded

Tribally-Founded

Uplifting the Fernandeño Tataviam’s centuries-old practice of caretaking for their ancestral lands.

For millennia, the Tribe has cultivated sensitive and intentional relationships with the land through the strategic use of traditional knowledge and practices.

The Tataviam Land Conservancy is a Tribally-operated nonprofit organization whose mission is to restore the unceded ancestral homelands of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (FTBMI) through protective land management strategies, traditional ecological knowledge, and innovative cultural and educational programming.

OUR TERRITORY

Without Land, Fernandeño heritage is at risk.

The Tataviam Land Conservancy focuses on land within the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians’ Tribal boundary. The boundary depicted is based on the villages enslaved at Mission San Fernando, from which registered Fernandeño Tataviam Citizens descend.

Our work is centered in the traditional territory of our founders, the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians.
